Australian Hearse Builders

Bodycraft were affiliated with the Ford Motor Company, and built special bodies for Ford vehicles.

This 60 Fairlane (59 to US readers) was converted from a 4 door Ranchwagon.  These photos were taken in Adelaide in 2001.  These big Fords were very popular with Australian funeral directors, as they could be easily and fairly cheaply converted to hearses.

This is an Aussie 1960 Ford, converted from a 4 door Ranchwagon to a hearse by Bodycraft.  Note that the low half of the rear door is still in place, and opens to give access to the space below the rollers.  This car is owned by a Queenland funeral director.  This photograph was taken in 1999.

This 1954 Ford Mainline hearse is believed to have been built by Bodycraft, although corrections will be gratefully received.  This car was originally powered by a 239 CI flathead V8 with a 3 speed manual transmission.  It’s now owned by a vehicle enthusiast in South Australia’s Barossa Valley.
